Our university’s PRIME Project Group was awarded approximately 100 million won incentive by receiving a satisfactory rating for the 『2nd Year (2017) Program for Industrial needs-Matched Education (PRIME) Project Evaluation』 hosted by the National Research Foundation of Korea (NRF).

This annual evaluation targeted a total of 21 colleges (9 large colleges and 12 small colleges) selected for the project in order to promote efficient progress and performance.

PRIME is a project promoted by the Ministry of Education with the aims to alleviate the mismatch of human resources by improving the nature of colleges in line with the social changes and industrial demands. Selected as the only women’s university for the large-scale PRIME Project in 2016, our university has been implementing the project for 3 years.

Through this evaluation, our university was analyzed to have made evident efforts in the composition and content of industry-academic collaboration system, pursuit and fostering of women human resources, and specialized liberal arts curriculum based on the 4th industrial revolution. In addition, our university was evaluated to have satisfactory adequacy and efficiency in the enforcement expenditure per item through the installation of various committees aimed toward compliance with budget enforcement procedures.

Although the need for partial supplementation was pointed out concerning the performance of new faculty employment for the College of Engineering, new construction of the PRIME Center, and extension of Renaissance Plaza, the plan to expand spaces centered on the rearrangement of the existing spaces were evaluated to be adequate.

In the meantime, the PRIME Project Group has been providing budget for the formation and operation of industry-university consultative groups targeting all departments with the aims to prepare an educational system which reflects industrial demands and to establish industry-university collaboration network. As a result, a total of 32 industry-university consultative groups were formed and we were recognized for our dynamic activities such as advisory on curriculum and class participation by 366 outside members from a total of 45 institutions.

Especially, our school received great ratings as the best and exemplary practices for other schools in regards to the implementation of diverse extracurricular courses that conform to the 4th industrial revolution such as WINE (Women in Engineering) Program, WIC (WINE Intensive Course) program, and College of Engineering Challenge Program, which are programs organized by the Basic Engineering Education Center, established in July last year, targeting College of Engineering students and dual major students.

The incentive from this evaluation is to be used toward projects for improving student competencies. The Head of PRIME Project Group Jung-san Oh announced “Although there were some relative shortcomings in the employment performance of full-time faculty and facility construction planning, we received good evaluation results in terms of overall curriculum and student support,” and “We will supplement the necessary areas and successfully complete the project in the remaining 8 months of the PRIME Project period.”
