The Department of Information Technology Engineering of our university’s Division of ICT Convergence Engineering received the highest ranking in the 2017 Evaluation of University Education on the Perspective of Industry.

The Ministry of Education and Korean Council for University Education announced that our university’s Department of Information Technology Engineering was selected for the Best University Prize in the software category at the 2017 Evaluation of University Education on the Perspective of Industry Award Ceremony held at the Korea Federation of SMEs on April 18 (Wed).

The Evaluation of University Education on the Perspective of Industry is a project that is implemented to prepare educational systems customized to industrial needs by evaluating whether a university’s core competence, curriculum, etc. and educational courses meet the requirements of each industry. The Ministry of Education began the evaluation starting in 2008 and the evaluation is personally participated by the heads of industry departments.  Despite being the first participation in 2017, our university was selected as the Best University and created an opportunity to be widely recognized for our educational courses in the field of engineering.

In order to foster software human resources demanded by future industries and IT convergence industry, etc., the Department of Information Technology Engineering is implementing new IT technologies and women-friendly software education by specializing in 3 tracks, which include smart device solution, intelligent data engineering, and affective computing.

Special Visiting Lecture by Naver on 2017 Student Training Day

Through the regular and self-operated educational course design consulting team composed of industry experts and educational experts, human resources and job competence demanded by industries are identified, which are then regularly reflected in curriculum contents or new curriculum is developed.

Head Professor of Department of Information Technology Engineering Yoon Yong-ik said, “Based on the analysis of the demands from last year’s evaluation results, we have expanded the hands-on curriculum, and by newly opening curriculum that converge majors and IPP work-based learning curriculum, we are helping the students to equip with the practical skills demanded by industries.”

2017 1st Semester Graduation Exhibition

We are continuously creating opportunities to directly listen to the voices of industries. By holding Student Training Day, Night Event for IT People, Expert Lecture via LT Program per semester, and through activities of Global Explorer Team, the actual sites of global IT companies such as Google, Intel, and Apple are visited to converse with the local engineers and broaden our perspective.

On the other hand, certification award under the joint seal of the Ministry of Education and the 5 major economic associations will be given to the university departments awarded at this evaluation, and the 5 major economic associations plan to recommend the member companies to provide employment incentive for the graduates from best universities. The officials of the evaluating team said, “This school’s Department of Information Technology Engineering was able to create an exemplary practice at a time when industry-university cooperation is becoming evermore important,” and “We will provide active support toward outstanding results in the areas of next evaluation, which are advertisement/public relations and biomedicine.”
