Sookmyung Women's University's Beacon Smart Attendance System wins Digital Innovation Grand!

SMU won the '2017 12th digital innovation grand prize' hosted by the Hankook Ilbo and sponsored by the Ministry of Science and ICT.

With the advent of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, this contest was held to discover enterprises and organizations that contribute to the domestic industrial development by exploiting innovative technologies. A total of 410 corporations participated and through fierce competition, technologies from 48 companies and organizations in each sector were selected.

Out of all the universities, SMU was selected based on the excellent evaluation in the information communication technology field with the Beacon Smart Attendance System introduced in the first semester of this year. We have installed the Beacon Readers in a total of 300 classrooms on campus, and have developed a third-generation electronic attendance system by developing a Smart Sookmyung attendance check application.

Sookmyung had already been constructing Smart Campus by introducing electronic attendance service through RFID, NFC, and QR code tagging. The director of Management Information Woo Sung Ho stated, “By winning the digital innovation grand prize with an idea of in-campus IOT service, we will become the leading university in the era of the Fourth Industrial Revolution.”
